Folia Side Basket by Sika-Design

“Folia” is a large decorative basket. The basket is handwoven from natural rattan, which is why there may be slight variations in color and shape.

This item is handcrafted from rattan, a climbing plant that grows like vines on trees in the Indonesian rainforest. Rattan is often confused with bamboo, but unlike hollow bamboo, rattan is a solid material. This makes rattan products very durable and virtually indestructible.

When rattan is steamed for 10–15 minutes, it can be shaped by hand using old traditional crafting techniques and just a few simple tools. There are 600 different varieties of rattan, and at Sika-Design we use exclusively the two highest-quality types, known as Tohiti and Manau.
