Carl Hansen & Søn CH20 Elbow Chair
Hans J. Wegner designed the stackable Elbow Chair in 1956. After he had developed two prototypes, the production-intensive design ended up in his archive. It lay there for almost half a century until it was brought back to life in 2005.
The timeless icon of modern Danish design
When Carl Hansen & Søn put the CH20 Elbow Chair into production for the first time in 2005, the chair quickly gained a status as a modern classic and was awarded the ICFF Editors' Award in New York in the same year. The Elbow Chair's signature steam-curved backrest is made from a single piece of solid wood and not only provides support for the elbows and lower back, but also allows for a variety of different sitting positions. The chair's unique rail construction under the molded veneer seat provides optimal stability combined with a light and floating expression.
Designer Hans J. Wegner
Hans J. Wegner is considered one of the most creative, innovative and productive Danish furniture designers. Wegner is often referred to as the "master of chairs" - and he created almost 500 chairs in his lifetime, many of which are considered masterpieces. He is probably best known for his iconic Wishbone Chair, which has been in continuous production since 1950. The core of Wegner's legacy is his desire to bring the inner qualities - the soul - of furniture to the outside, where its simplicity and functionality can be appreciated.
