Gijs Bakker was actually known for his aluminum jewelry when he decided to design a chair. The inspiration came from a competition organized by foam manufacturer Dunlop and the result is still a small design miracle today.
Bakker took a piece of foam, bent it at a 90-degree angle and stretched it into a metal frame. The GB Lounge was finished. The idea was simple, but the result was convincing.
Bakker affectionately called it "the Levi's Chair" at the time. Because it was supposed to be just like a pair of well-worn jeans - relaxed, uncomplicated, an alternative to the stiff design taste of the previous generation. A chair in which you simply feel at home.
Today, the GB Lounge comes with feet that lift it slightly off the ground - for even more seating comfort. And it is more than just a single piece: combined with a pouf and plugged together using clever connectors, it becomes a flexible seating system for two, three or more people.
One for you alone. Or one for everyone. You decide.
