Carl Hansen & Søn VLA76 Foyer Chair - Armchair

Carl Hansen & Søn VLA76 Foyer Chair The Foyer Chair is characterized by a unique interplay of oak wood and upholstery. The armrests are polished by hand with great care to avoid visible transitions. The Foyer Series was designed exclusively by Vilhelm Lauritzen for Radiohuset in Copenhagen in 1945. The Foyer Lounge Chair, newly created in close collaboration with Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects, is one of a series of three designs created by Vilhelm Lauritzen for Radiohuset in Copenhagen. The lounge chair is characterized by the unique interplay between the solid oak frame, the upholstered seat and the sloping backrest. The chair is made up of three individual parts and has been polished by hand to avoid visible transitions. It is carefully upholstered in leather, and both the seat and the backrest feature handmade buttons. Designer Vilhelm Lauritzen Vilhelm Theodor Lauritzen was one of Denmark's most influential architects and one of the founders of Danish modernism. Many of his projects have survived to this day as lasting examples of a new and revolutionary approach to architecture in which form followed function. Throughout his career, he held the view that architecture should be an applied art, serving everyone and not just a privileged few. Among Lauritzen's most famous and highly regarded works are the first terminal at Copenhagen Airport (1939), now known as the Vilhelm Lauritzen Terminal, the Radiohuset broadcasting building in Frederiksberg (1945), the Vega music center in Copenhagen (1956) and the Danish Embassy in Washington D.C. (1960). Vilhelm Lauritzen was born on September 10, 1894 in Slagelse, Denmark. He graduated from Sorø Akademi in 1912 and from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts for Architecture in Copenhagen in 1921. The following year he founded Tegnestuen Vilhelm Lauritzen (now Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects). Lauritzen's talents also extended to interior design. Over the course of his career, he designed everything from door handles, ashtrays and banisters to lamps, sofas and chairs.
