Designed in 1930 by Robert Dudley Best, the Bestlite BL7 wall lamp celebrates elegant and clean lines with a clear reference to the Bauhaus period. With its contemporary look in various versions and the movable shade, this beautiful light source is ideal for the hallway, as a bedside lamp or over the kitchen counter. Leave them on their own or combine them in pairs to create an expressive light source.
The design of the Bestlite lamp was first adopted by garages and the technical departments of the Royal Air Force because of its great functionality. A feature in the Architects Journal, where 'Bestlite' was honoured with the title of the first Bauhaus certificate in the UK, brought the lamp to the attention of the design-conscious. Public demand for the Bestlite lamps soon followed, and when Winston Churchill personally chose the Bestlite BL1 table lamp for his desk, iconic status was assured.
The 'Bestlite' design remains close to its industrial roots and true to its original design. The 'Bestlite' is in the permanent collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Design Museum in London. Loved by architects, designers and design lovers throughout its long history, 'Bestlite' has become a contemporary classic.
