Poul Henningsen designed his first lamps as early as 1925–1926 for an exhibition in Paris. His collaboration with Louis Poulsen continued until his death in 1967. Throughout his life, PH strove to create glare-free light, direct light where it was most needed, and produce soft shadows—all while using incandescent bulbs as his light source. The PH Louvre was designed in 1957 for the Adventist Church in Skodsborg, Denmark. The spherical lamp consists of 13 shades attached to four supports. It is a simplified version of an earlier lamp designed by Poul Henningsen in 1942, which was named “Spiral.”
