Historical floor lamp PD2

Barba Corsini was commissioned in 1955 to redesign the attics of the prominent Antoni Gaudí emblem La Pedrera. Corsini transformed the space used as laundry and storage room into 13 modern apartments. To complete the architectural experience, Corsini designed and decorated the apartments according to his own designs, inspired by the characteristic appearance of the building.

In 1991 it was decided to restore the attic space of La Pedrera according to the original concept of Gaudí. The interior decoration made by Corsini was demolished and most of it was thrown away. During the renovation work, architect and gallery owner Joaquim Ruiz Millet discovered the PD2 floor lamp and saved it from being thrown into the trash. Ruiz Millet began to collaborate with Corsini and his designs, re-creating the original pieces, in particular to contribute to saving his work, making it better known and making it accessible to the public.

The inspiration for the base of the lamp came from the vaulted ceilings of La Pedrera, while the inspiration for the cylindrical shape and unique perforated details of the chimneys influenced the shape of the lampshade. The PD2 floor lamp has a strong, simple character, which is also an apt description of Corsini's personal design style and fits well into any contemporary home.
