In search of a suitable christening gift for Peter, the son of his friend and fellow furniture designer Børge Mogensen, Wegner decided to take matters into his own hands and make the gift himself. Wegner was an accomplished cabinetmaker, and he designed and built a simple but ingenious chair that would act as both a functional piece of furniture and an appealing toy.
