The 'backstitch' is a classic stitch in embroidery. Here it was used for once on a carpet:
'Backstitch' turns traditional embroidery on its head (literally!) and delicately and elegantly justifies what is often hidden. Indeed, the simple stitch plays here for once the main role and determines the exterior of the carpet.
The collection was designed by 'Raw-Edge's and is handcrafted using embroidery and handloom techniques by the 'Gan Women's Unit', a group of women living in rural India, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, who collaborate with 'Gan' in the handcrafting of many of their collections. The 'Gan Women's Unit' responds to the brand's desire to promote mutual cultural enrichment while offering economic autonomy to the women of this region. The goal is clear: to help them gain independence and decision-making power through stable, well-paid work.
