'Hunting Chair'

It never ceases to amaze me how often designers succeed in achieving absolute timelessness with their designs. The 'Hunting Chair' by Børge Mogensen, for example, does not look as if it had been invented in 1950. In fact, it was actually made that very year for the autumn exhibition of the Copenhagen Carpenters' Guild, whose theme at the time was 'The Hunting Cabin'.

Today I would not so much banish this beautiful piece to a secluded hunting lodge as to my living room, where the eye-catching piece is both an admired object and comfortable seat.

The frame of the 'Hunting Chair' is made of solid oak and is spanned by firm core leather with adjustable straps. This rustic and masculine combination of materials has already proven its worth in Mogensen's 'SpanishChair', where it also provides an eye-catching and dynamic design. With a seat height of just 30 centimetres, the 'Hunting Chair' is relatively low. The equally deep rounded armrests and the adaptability of the seat and back make the Hunting Chair an incredibly comfortable seat.

A beautiful piece, this 'Hunting Chair', whose leather only gets more beautiful with time.
