Designed in 1889, just like the Eiffel Tower, this bistro chair has achieved cult status and, in addition to being widespread in its “patrie” (hometown), has even made its way all the way to Times Square in New York. Incidentally, these wonderful chairs aren’t just found at one of my favorite spots in Lyon, the “Buvette du Pont Wilson,” which I highly recommend not only to die-hard lemonade fans and white wine connoisseurs (15 Quai Victor Augagneur, 69003 Lyon, France). The most beautiful of all the bistro chairs from this traditional French manufacturer in Belleville have long since won over my heart and my little garden with their French charm and laid-back chic. Of course, I particularly love the classic red of the bistro furniture, but I also think they look lovely in the natural wood finish or in a contemporary color palette of new green and blue shades with evocative names like Anis and Verveine. I don’t need to explicitly mention that the folding chairs are also wonderfully practical—they’re ideal, especially when space is limited on a modest city balcony. And for larger gatherings, too, bien sûr!
