This table lamp emits a soft, harmonious, and pleasant light that is directed primarily downward. Poul Henningsen used his celebrated three-shade system as the basis for this lamp. He designed this system in 1925 with the goal of giving form to attractive, glare-free light. The first lamp to utilize this three-shade system was developed in collaboration with Louis Poulsen for the World’s Fair in Paris that same year. The so-called Paris lamp was awarded a gold medal. Henningsen pursued a distinctly scientific approach to lighting and created further designs based on this system. Using the three-shade system based on the Lituus curve, he achieved uniform light distribution. In addition, the light is diffused, which counteracts glare and shadow formation. The numbers in the names of the PH lamps refer to the proportions of the shades.
