Poul Henningsen designed the PH 5 in 1958 in response to the constant changes in the shape and size of incandescent light bulbs. The result was a lamp that can be used with any light source.

The iconic design is based on the principles of the PH system and provides soft, pleasant, and completely glare-free light —ideal as a pendant light above the dining table. The PH 5 is available in various color options and is one of the most popular and well-known pendant lights, found in countless homes around the world.

With the PH 5 320 Opal, Louis Poulsen presents a new version of the iconic PH 5. It has been faithfully scaled down to a diameter of 320 mm and is made of a new, lighter opal-colored material.

The PH 5 320 Opal combines the glare-free, directional light of the original PH 5 design with a softly diffused, atmospheric light created by the slightly transparent and glossy shade material.

The interplay of light, sheen, texture, and transparency lends the material and lighting experience a completely new depth and a special radiance.

The design has been simplified, and the lower glass diffuser disc has been removed to allow more light to escape. This improves downward light distribution. Thanks to its more compact size, the PH 5 320 Opal is ideal for smaller tables or—when used in pairs—for larger tables, kitchen islands, or work surfaces.
