The wall lamp version of the Bernard Schottlander 'Mantis' series from 1951 includes the generosity and sculptural characteristics of the floor and table lamp of this series. Thanks to the joint, the lamp can be swivelled horizontally by 200 degrees. The inclination of the boom arm can be adjusted by repositioning the chain links.
What I particularly like about the Mantis lamps is the contrast between the very delicate frame and the larger lampshade, which balances lankily on the base. Almost like a mobile, but a luminous one.
All in all, a beautiful series that has been reissued by the French company DCW - which is also responsible for the new edition of the 'Gras' lamps.
