In collaboration with Louis Poulsen, the world-renowned Icelandic-Danish artist Olafur Eliasson has designed a new pendant light. Through the complex forms of the OE Quasi, Eliasson combines his longstanding interest in geometry and light, thereby underscoring his and Louis Poulsen’s shared conviction that the quality of lighting is of crucial importance to our lives. The pendant lamp consists of two contrasting yet interconnected geometric forms. The outer layer takes the form of an icosahedron with 20 triangular faces. Seemingly suspended within the frame is the inner form, which has the geometry of a dodecahedron with 12 pentagonal faces. The light source is embedded in the inner vertices of the frame and connected via light guides along the inner edges. The light is directed toward the reflector in the center, creating spherical illumination of the surrounding area. The OE Quasi was designed with sustainability in mind, a core value of Eliasson’s work. With the goal of a long service life, the product design allows for the replacement and recycling of parts.
